Bookworms certainly know how to sniff out the most unique bookstores and libraries in the world. After all, if there's one place in the world where we book lovers feel at home, besides our own homes, it's at a bookstore or a library. This castle in Pennsylvania, a library and a historic landmark, provides an idyllic setting for relaxing with a good book, for channeling your creativity, or for just exploring a bit.
Nestled in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Homestead, the Carnegie Library of Homestead boasts a rich history, dating back to 1898. One of more than 2,000 libraries founded by Andrew Carnegie...
The Homestead Library cost nearly a quarter of a million dollars to build. The castle features "hand-cut Italian marble," hand-painted murals, and hand-carved desks.
However, the library is far more than just your traditional library. Since it opened at the tail-end of the 19th century, the Carnegie Homestead has served as a gathering spot for the community.
Today, the historic landmark houses a library, an athletic club, and a music hall.
You can do far more than read at the library. The Carnegie Library of Homestead hosts programs and events - from story time to game night - for community members of all ages.
Working on getting or staying in shape? Or maybe you're just looking for a regular pool in which to swim? The Athletic Club at the Carnegie Homestead offers personal training sessions and hosts group exercise classes and wellness programs.
Memberships of various levels are available for community members. The calendar is jam-packed with activities and classes for community members in all age groups.
The Music Hall also hosts musicians, comedians, and others throughout the year. Check out their calendar here.
