The Keizer Miracle of Christmas Lights Are a Neighborhood Tradition in Oregon

The Keizer Miracle of Christmas Lights Display in this Oregon Christmas town has been a holiday tradition for many Oregonians since 1984.

Holiday traditions bring families and communities together – whether it’s an annual summer BBQ or sparkling holiday lights. There’s one neighborhood in Keizer that has a tradition of dressing up its homes every December, and it’s been a favorite since 1984. This Christmas town is absolutely magical and home to one of the best drive-through Christmas light displays in Oregon.

The town of Keizer is located just north of Salem. It's home to around 38,500 people, but this time of year, visitors from all over the state come to see the holiday decorations and lights in the Gubser neighborhood.

The tradition started in 1984 when a couple of families in the neighborhood put up their Christmas lights. Each family tried to outdo the other just a bit and every year the displays got bigger and better. The competitive spirit was friendly and fun and brought the neighbors closer together.

Word soon got out that the Gubser Neighborhood was a holiday lights destination, and people from Salem and surrounding areas started driving through to see the magnificent decorations. The neighbors soon realized that there was an opportunity to turn the annual event into a fundraising affair for the local Marion Polk Food Share.

Every year, volunteers now collect cash donations and canned food, and thousands of meals are donated. Online options for direct donations to the Marion Polk Food Share are also available.

This gorgeous neighborhood light display is very popular. For the 2024 holiday season, the event will take place from Dec. 1 to Dec. 26, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. each night. This impressive drive-through light display in Oregon begins at the corner of Lockhaven and 14th Avenue in Keizer. To avoid large crowds, try to visit on weeknights and please be patient and kind while making your way through the neighborhood.

Another great way to enjoy the lights is by taking a stroll on foot! Bundle up and make your way past the cheerful, decorated homes. A visit to the Gubser Neighborhood is a family tradition for many Oregonians. Is it a tradition for your family?
