This Rare Footage Of A Popular Oklahoma Amusement Park Will Have You Longing For The Good Ol’ Days
Springlake Amusement Park in Oklahoma City was a popular destination from 1924 until its closure in 1981, known for its wooden roller coaster and various attractions.
Springlake Amusement Park in Oklahoma City opened in 1924 and was "the place" to go for fun back in the day. If you grew up going to this park, it's hard to drive down Martin Luther King Blvd. in Oklahoma City and not remember the Big Dipper - the popular wooden roller coaster at the amusement park. Springlake started with a big spring-fed pond and then many rides and attractions, along with a pool and slides, were added, making it an outdoor haven for all ages.
The park continued to be a popular destination throughout the 1950s and 1960s, attracting many top performers of the day. However, a race riot in 1971, numerous fires and a change in ownership changed the future of Springlake Park. The park closed its doors in 1981.
