You’ll Feel Like The King Of The World At This Titanic Exhibit In Ohio

Like every other teenager in 1997, I saw "Titanic" multiple times in the theaters. The doomed love affair between Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet aboard the equally doomed Titanic... it was all too much for my teenage heart to handle. Fast forward to 2024 and here I am, a parent to four curious, history-loving kids, and the Titanic (the ship, not the film) has become part of our everyday vernacular. So when I heard about an entire Titanic exhibit coming to Ohio in 2024, I thought it would be the perfect way to kick off summer break. Running now through Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 2, 2024) at the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus, Ohio, TITANIC: The Artifact Exhibition is truly unlike any other exhibit I’ve attended.

On April 15, 1912, the RMS Titanic met its fate in the frigid waters of the Atlantic Ocean, claiming the lives of 1,517 passengers.

In the century since, this ship has become part of our cultural consciousness; a cautionary tale, a modern-day tragedy full of romance and intrigue.

TITANIC: The Artifact Exhibition captures the spirit of this vessel and its legacy, offering guests a fully immersive experience aboard the acclaimed ship.

And the experience begins before even stepping into the 10,000- square-foot exhibition gallery at COSI.

Just like "Titanic" passengers back in 1912, visitors to this Ohio exhibit receive a boarding pass on arrival, making everyone feel like more of a passenger than spectator. This is just a sign of what’’s to come.

There are 200 artifacts recovered from the wreck site, and it’s humbling to see these remains close up. My kids were so intrigued by what's been recovered over the years: dishes, benches, clothing, and even pieces of the ship!

Film fans will be completely taken by the full-scale recreations, including the iconic steps of the Grand Staircase!

I loved getting to peek into the rooms -- it was striking to see the difference between the luxurious first-class cabins and sparse crew quarters!

As a parent, I love having experiences with my kids, and the Titanic exhibit at COSI ranks among the most fascinating attractions we've been to. We're so lucky to have this exhibit here for the summer of 2024 -- TITANIC: The Artifact Exhibition has been viewed by more than 30 million people worldwide, making it one of the highest attended in history -- and I highly recommend adding yourself (and your family) to this passenger manifest (which is much luckier than its namesake).

Grab the road trip snacks and plan a trip to Columbus to experience TITANIC: The Artifact Exhibition. It isn't every day you get to live out your teenage dreams of wandering the gilded halls of the RMS Titanic.
