This classic amusement park has been open for 70 years.
Tweetsie Railroad is one of the most popular summertime attractions at Blowing Rock, North Carolina. Tourists and locals alike flock to this exciting amusement park, which has been open to the community for 70 seasons! Beyond the old steam engine chugging along, allowing passengers to see the entire park, there are also thrilling carnival-style rides on the property that families plan their vacations around. Take, for example, the Bullwhip—an adrenaline-pumping swing that spins around 360 degrees. Here's what to know about this exciting ride, plus why the summertime park is worth visiting!
Tweetse Railroad has been around since 1957, conjuring up a lot of memories for folks. Do you remember spending time at this Wild West-themed park in the good old days of North Carolina summer? One reason many people visit this amusement park is for the train history and the rides on the old locomotives.
When the Tweetsie Railroad first opened, it had one steam locomotive ride—the Narrow Gauge Locomotive No. 12—which drove folks one mile to a park's picnic area and back. Now, there are two trains with the addition of the Locomotive No. 190. But beyond the trains, the park boasts thrilling rides for people of all ages.
The Ferris Wheel is the best way to find a panoramic view. But there's also a chairlift ride, small children's rides with plane and train motifs, and much more. But one of the most exciting rides has to be The Bullwhip.
The exhilarating ride starts slowly, spinning people around and back and forth. As it builds momentum, it swings all the way upside down and round and round. While the ride is exhilarating, it may be too much for people with motion sickness or—ride if you dare!
Whether you decide to ride The Bullwhip or not, plenty of fun awaits at Tweetsie Railroad. Watch live reenactments of Old West standoffs and rodeos, pet baby goats and donkeys at the petting zoo, and enjoy tasty frozen and salty treats from the outposts throughout the park. And check out Tweetsie Railroad's website for a list of upcoming events and activities.
While this park is open year-round and is popular during the summertime, autumn is an especially beautiful time to visit. You'll absolutely love the stunning views of the fall foliage over the mountains in this region of North Carolina. Tickets start at $65 per person for adults and $45 per person for children. Visit the Tweetsie Railroad website for more information.
