The first floor contains the Core Sound Heritage Gallery, home to a permanent collection of life and culture in Down East Carteret County.

This display is part of the exhibition: Decoys of Core Sound, featuring the hand-crafted art of many carvers and styles.

Sit in the quiet library with a rare and out-of-print book as more than 400 books and periodicals are available.

You'll find such topics as waterfowl, quilting, hunting, folklore, birding, boatbuilding, and commercial fishing.

And a cozy Gathering Room decorated with the Gallery of Trees every December was designed in the same style of hunt clubs that once lined the Outer Banks.

This space is filled with decoys and hunting memorabilia featuring the Billy & Janice Smith Collection of world-class decoys by Louisiana carvers Earl Federine, Tan Brunet, Jude Brunet, and Jimmy Vizier.

David's Room is where the magic happens with carving demonstrations, and where artists continue learning their craft.

This is a special place for folks to learn more about the ongoing tradition of decoy carving along Core Sound.

The creative Children's Learning Center showcases a hand-built, wooden reading skiff, for visitors who are ages 12 and under.

Interactive experiences encourage exploring the Core Sound with story time, science and craft activities.

The Second Floor features the Core Sound Community Exhibits, which we find fascinating.

The history of the rich and personal lives of the people and their communities — past and present — are shared with the public.
