1. University of North Carolina
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is the highest-ranked public school in the South in the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings. And more than 8,000 students are another indication of its great reputation. Find out about some campus activities on the UNC website.
2. Merritt's Grill
But before we do anything, we're making a stop at Merritt's Grill. Since 1992, the staff here has promised fresh ingredients and great service.
And this place is known for its massively-piled BLTs, which is why we came.
Read more about the amazing Merritt's Grill.
3. Julian's
We love shopping, especially at the family-owned and operated Julians, where since 1942 it has been a classy mainstay on Franklin Street, clothing local dignitaries and UNC athletes. Discover more on Julian’s website.
4. Whitehall Antiques
This is the place to go for those in the mood for something old and eclectic. Since 1930, folks have enjoyed the vast inventory of fine furniture, home furnishings, jewelry, and Art Deco. See what's inside on the Whitehall Antiques Facebook page.
5. Southern Village
More shopping, restaurants, and live entertainment are available in this cool space, complete with a movie theater and local market. Check out the calendar on the Southern Village events page.
6. North Carolina Botanical Garden
This beautiful conservation garden has more than 1,200 acres of natural areas, such as the pretty display gardens, the Coker Arboretum, and Battle Park. Find out everything on the NC Botanical Garden Facebook page.
7. NC State Sports
While we're here, screaming and shouting is a must, and the best place to for that is at one of the college's sports events. Look into the times and dates on the Tarheels' events page.
8. Talulla's
And it wouldn't be a special outing without the authentically-crafted Turkish cuisine this restaurant offers. We love the homemade bread with the house sauce that comes with fantastic service.
The fish is delectable and perfectly grilled with a fresh side salad. Enjoy it with a glass of wine and finish it off with a Turkish coffee in a tiny porcelain cup.
See more photos on Talullas' Facebook page.
We hope you enjoy this charming college town in North Carolina.
