The Massive Rummage Warehouse in North Carolina That Takes Nearly All Day To Explore
Enjoy a day hunting for treasures, local finds, and seeing must-visit destinations on this fun North Carolina shopping trip.
Calling all shoppers! We've found one of the largest vintage stores that’s perfect for a North Carolina shopping trip. Rummage Warehouse in Wilson is a 10,000-square-foot vintage space, and we think this massive warehouse is worthy of a road trip from any corner of the state. Believe it or not, this vast showroom is packed full, floor to ceiling, with inventory from liquidated estate sales. As you stroll for hours browsing the rows of merchandise, and you lock eyes with that antique lamp, you’ll feel like you’ve won the jackpot. Continue to hunt, and experience nostalgic feelings of joy when you find more items that you can’t get anywhere else, including Christmas and other holiday decor.
A day at this massive warehouse is not your average shopping excursion that you would have at a thrift store. Instead, this is retail therapy to the next level, where time slips away as you browse furniture, dishes, glassware, and clothing that you didn’t even know you needed. You are sure to find a long-forgotten prize in this massive vintage warehouse in North Carolina, which takes all day to explore. And of course, after you’ve checked out the charming town of Wilson, this will be a shopping day trip in North Carolina you won’t forget.
A Must-Visit Shopping Destination in North Carolina
Not only is the historic town of Wilson filled with quirky attractions, but you can really shop, eat, and explore for an entire day here. In addition to shopping, the town has great museums, lots of charming gardens, and green spaces. It's also known for its rich history in the tobacco industry, so you'll come across relics from those days that are now long gone. In fact, it was once dubbed as the "World's Greatest Tobacco Market" in the 20th-century. Art enthusiast, you will love the galleries and artsy vibe of the town. Another reason to visit? To shop all day at the Rummage Warehouse, of course!
Located in the heart of downtown Wilson, I can guarantee that you're sure to find something you can't live without here. From the second you walk through the doors at Rummage Warehouse, you'll immediately realize that this 10,000-square-foot mall has an eclectic assortment of possibilities. It's actually two businesses in one location: the Rummage Warehouse serves as a vintage store that liquidates estates and brings inventory into the warehouse, and Culbreth and Company is the holiday and home gift shop.
Picture frames, art, glassware, and home furnishings are available by the dozen in every shape and color. And since the inventory is constantly changing, no two visits are the same. Antique stores like this are perfect for college kids getting their first apartment or for building a mixed collection you could only have imagined in your dreams. I love antique stores, and I truly love having reclaimed furniture in my house. Every piece has a story, and well... they just don't make furniture like they used to.
From ballgowns to office wear, we love the variety at Rummage Warehouse. Remember your favorite vinyl albums? Well, you'll find a healthy stock of albums waiting for you to thumb through. You might even find the perfect record to gift someone!
Speaking of gifts, we mentioned earlier that the Rummage Warehouse is actually two stores in one. The other business here is Culbreth and Company, your one-stop shop for all of your holiday needs. Whether you want to stock up on decorative ribbon or transform your tree with all-new ornaments, you'll find it too. You might think it's too soon to shop for the holidays, but the season will be here before you know it. And you don't want to regret not picking up that one-of-a-kind ornament that matches your theme, so be sure to carve out some time to stroll around.
Special holiday hours typically begin around mid-November, but the regular shopping hours are from:
- Thursdays and Fridays 10 a.m - 5 p.m.
- Saturdays 10 a.m. - 4 p.m
Since the inventory is always changing, it's best to follow the Rummage Warehouse on Facebook so you can stay up to date. The Rummage Warehouse website updates with items currently available, too!
More Things to Do on a Shopping Trip in Wilson, NC
After you've gotten enough retail therapy, you're probably hungry and need to refuel before you explore Wilson. If you're in a hurry, grab a quick bite from Flo's Kitchen before noon or start your day with a hearty breakfast sandwich made with delicious homemade biscuits. This cash-only drive-thru joint is a local staple. You can also grab a juicy burger for lunch from Ruckus and Redemption, which is just a stone's throw from the warehouse. There are coffee shops and sweet treats within walking distance, too.
When I'm on a day trip somewhere, I always try to poke around and see what else the area offers. So, once you're nice and full, browse and check out the cute boutique storefronts in the historic district, the parks, and the museums. Wilson Botanical Gardens is a fun side quest that offers free admission and might just be the perfect pairing to a day of vintage shopping! Another must-visit spot is the quirky Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park, filled with whimsical art installations and sculptures. It's weird and wacky in the best way and a perfect place to meet locals and visitors alike.
If you plan your trip during the third weekend in June, you can catch the 301 Endless Yard Sale along the Historic U.S. Route 301. And when they say endless, they mean it - it's not for the amateur thrifter. The two-day shopping extravaganza stretches for 100 miles (yes, that many) across five counties, including Wilson County. Locals recommend starting early and bringing a cart for one of the biggest shopping events in North Carolina.
Between the shopping spree and all the fun and quirky attractions in Wilson, you could easily spend more than a day here. Want to extend your trip? I made it easy for you and found this modern boutique North Carolina hotel right in the heart of the historic town. Since it's centrally located, you can leave your car behind and walk to all the cool attractions in Wilson. If you ask me, this all-day shopping trip in North Carolina sounds like a big win! Happy shopping and exploring!
