This Train Station In New York Is Actually A Restaurant And You Need To Visit
Cold weather is here to stay and now more than ever you might find yourself out searching for a nice homemade meal to keep you filled up this winter. Far from your average location, out in Genesee County there's a hidden gem of a restaurant that you'll want to visit whenever you're out in this area. Giving you a look into the heart and foundation of one of New York's small towns, this old train station is surprisingly a restaurant and it's worth paying a trip to!
Out in the town of Le Roy, the D & R Depot is just a half-hour drive from Rochester and an hour away from Buffalo.
Dating as far back as the mid 1870s, what's now a restaurant was once the B&O train depot that locals would use in town to get to work and school.
Step inside the restaurant and you'll find that the train theme continues on, with an upside train running on the ceiling and the cashier operating out of the depot's old ticket station.
The cozy restaurant sits less than 80 people inside, so you'll find that dining is nice and intimate here in this old station.
Open every day from 7AM to 9PM, the D & R Depot features breakfast, lunch and dinner menus full of homemade dishes that are absolutely savory.
Around this time of year the old train depot gets into the holiday spirt and features plenty of decorations and a unique incentive for people to come and pay the restaurant a visit.
The D & R Depot has been hanging an Upside Down Tree from it's ceiling during the holiday season for over 25 years, giving guests the chance to win a prize if they can guess how many angels are on the tree this year!
So, who's ready to take a step back in time and see if they can take home the honor of winning the Upside Down Tree contest this year?
Full of nostalgia, the town's old train depot holds a sweet spot in the heart of locals. The train station has long been shut down, but residents will never forget that this was once the heart of town where everyone was coming to catch the train!
Now, about that contest! A tradition for many of us, the over 25-year long contest features a different theme each year. Every season starting around Thanksgiving Day, people are asked to see if they can count the correct amount of whatever the year's decoration is on the tree to win a prize. This year whoever can get the closest to the right amount of angels on the tree (without going over) will win $300 dollars! To find out more information, click here.
