The Wildwood Boardwalk might just be the most retro location in all of New Jersey, especially when you see all the classic 1950s decor. The boardwalk feels like it's frozen in time in the best way possible, from the historic motels to the old-school treats, but it's especially clear in one location. The Doo-Wop Experience is a seasonal museum run by the Doo-Wop Preservation League, a non-profit dedicated to preserving this unique 1950s design style. Hundreds of artifacts, awnings, and furnishings from the era have been gathered under one roof - and you can tour this quirky technicolor wonderland for yourself every summer. It might just be the most unique museum in New Jersey, and anyone who visits will be ready to head to the nearest sock hop.
You can see the Doo-Wop Experience coming a mile away by the garish 1950s-style signs welcoming you back to this colorful era.
Inside the experience, you'll find a whole wonderland of Doo-Wop era decor. Everything is brightly lit, colorful, and welcoming in a pleasantly kitschy way.
The whole place seems like a recreation of a home of the era, including a fully restored kitchen complete with vintage cookbooks. Anyone hungry for salisbury steak?
You'll even find some colorful vintage bikes on display, calling back to those carefree days of riding the summer away.
The museum also has some impressive artifacts of the time period, including vintage vinyl records and period-era posters.
Of course, it wouldn't be a 1950s celebration without a vintage jukebox. How many plays of "What's New Pussycat" can we buy?
The experience even has a full recreation of a 1950s diner, albeit not functioning - but it'll make you want to visit the malt shop on the grounds as soon as you're done exploring!
The museum is run by the non-profit Doo-Wop Preservation League, and you can learn all about their mission from the display signs.
