The New Jersey City That Was Just Named The Most Livable In America Lives Up To That Honor

New Jerseyans deal with a lot of cr.. crummy comments from outsiders - I can't think of another state that gets more hate. Still, Jersey keeps bringing in one accolade after the next. Princeton was named one of the best small cities in America and our second most populous city just topped another list.

Jersey City sometimes gets a bad rap, but it was just named the most livable city in America.

The data-driven study factored in walkability, income to cost of housing ratio, safety relative to population size, unemployment rate and more.

While that sounds good on paper, Jersey City is more than just statistics - it's a bustling metropolis with a rich culture and endless entertainment opportunities.

Jersey City is loaded with history, being one of the oldest towns in New Jersey. Buildings in the Harsimus Cove/Van Vorst Park area date as far back as 1690.

The town is home to one of the best kid-friendly museums in the country, Liberty Science Center, along with gems like the Museum of Russian Art.

There's a burgeoning art scene in the city. Don't miss Mana Contemporary (pictured) and Art House for exhibits and performances.

When it comes to shopping, Jersey City has you covered with Newport Centre Mall, Hudson Mall and neighborhoods like Journal Square.

Nightlife options abound including LITM bar/restaurant/art gallery, speakeasy-style Miss Wong's and bar/arcade hybrid Barcade.

Jersey City is paradise for foodies with restaurants like Battello, Liberty House, Lighthorse Tavern, Edward's Steakhouse and Brownstone Diner (with pancakes ranked among the best in the U.S.).

You never know what gems you'll find here, like Jersey City and Harsimus Cemetery - a quirky and historic community hub.

Jersey City is also home to Liberty State Park, where you can hop on a shuttle to the iconic Statue of Liberty or Ellis Island.
