New Jersey is home to so many incredible destinations, from High Point to Cape May. Most Garden Staters are well aware of our most popular attractions but we've also got what I like to call Jersey gems. These are lesser-known businesses, restaurants, parks, gardens, and unique attractions. One such gem is the Abram Demaree Homestead and Farm.
At the corner of Old Hook and Schraalenburgh Roads in Closter, you'll find the beautiful Abram Demaree Homestead and Farm.
The striking Colonial-era home dates back to 1720 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Inside the home, you'll find a vintage consignment shop will all sorts of antique treasures and collectibles.
It's a fantastic place to find gifts, home goods, holiday decor, and more!
Furniture, jewelry, art, books, bags, and plenty more can be found at the shop.
If the historic home and charming antique shop aren't enough reason to visit, you can also check out the working farm and farm-to-table cafe.
Enjoy delicious farm fresh food at affordable prices! Outdoor dining is available.
The menu includes burgers (including a veggie burger) pulled pork, a Philly cheese steak sandwich, hot dogs, paninis, chicken tenders, delicious homemade pies and pie cookies, cakes, drinks, and more.
You can also find honey, fresh eggs, preserves and jams, salsa, and spectacular mango chipotle salsa at the farm stand.
All proceeds help maintain the house and farm. The Abram Demaree Homestead is a fantastic local non-profit that preserves history and brings the community together. Support them if you can!
The home and farm are just across the street from each other and together make for a perfect, family-friendly day trip. There's plenty to explore as you connect to Bergen County's past, walking in the footsteps of those who lived on and farmed the grounds nearly 300 years ago. Different parts of the homestead and Old Schraalenburgh Farm are open at different times, so be sure to check out its website for more information.
