There is something truly incredible about live theater and music in a way that no screen can duplicate. Some of my most memorable childhood memories are seeing stage shows in Madison Square Garden and other locations. A big part of this experience is in the theater itself, and there are only a few locations left in New Jersey that capture this kind of majestic old-school charm. One historic theater in New Jersey that definitely still feels like true magic is the Broadway Theatre of Pitman, which is coming up on a hundred years of live theater. Today, it serves as this small South Jersey town's premiere music and theater venue, and its spectacular old-school design is the perfect location for taking in some of the state's best shows and concerts!
The Broadway Theatre of Pitman is one of the most historic theaters in New Jersey, having first opened in 1926. Back then, it was a vaudeville and movie theater during the early days of Hollywood, giving many talented performers their big break.
The biggest draw of this theater is undoubtedly the stunning interior, with traditional balconies and crystal chandeliers. Being inside feels like being transported back in time - and it's all thanks to the talented staff and volunteers who have put so much work into restoring it over the years.
Obviously, the days of Vaudeville are long gone, and most movie theaters today are massive multi-screen affairs - so the Broadway Theatre has pivoted to specializing in live entertainment, putting on incredible small-town productions of classic and current Broadway hits.
The theater is also highly acclaimed for its children's theater program, with regular shows based on fairy tales and even Disney movies being scheduled. It's a fantastic way to introduce kids to the magic of live theater.
However, the theatre is never livelier than when it's hosting live music - from cover bands and tribute acts to Jersey originals. The entire theatre becomes a spectacular concert hall, and the acts truly do raise the rafters off this grand old house!

Pitman is an incredibly charming town well worth a visit, as well - it's home to Chloe's Creme Puffs, an incredible little bakery, and you can book a stay at one of the state's best B&Bs - The Inn on Holly, only feet from the theater.
