Best Things to Do in New Hampshire With Kids: 7 Fun Spots to Try
Discover fun places in New Hampshire for restless kids, from indoor play centers to outdoor adventures.
From the time my kids were little, my husband and I included them on our trips, both near and far, and experienced many of the fun things to do with kids in New Hampshire. Since then, we have learned a few things about traveling with littles, the most important lesson being that not all adult attractions are fun for kids and, conversely, not all kid attractions are fun for adults. Throughout our adventures, we have also discovered many wonderful local activities that are entertaining for everyone in our family. Check out my list of favorite family-friendly activities in New Hampshire.
Outdoor Adventures That Let Kids Burn Off Energy
1. The Adventure Center at Loon Mountain, Lincoln

A visit to Loon Mountain is worth the trip, even when there is no snow on the ground. This gorgeous mountain resort is packed with endless exhilarating fun. On our last trip to the resort, my family explored glacial caves, hiked through the forest, climbed a rock wall, and ziplined above the Pemigewasset River. The highlight of our visit was a scenic gondola ride to the top of the mountain. The Adventure Center at Loon Mountain is undoubtedly one of the best things to do in New Hampshire with kids. Be sure to plan ahead as the outdoor summer activities are open mid-May through October, while skiing is from mid-November until mid-April.
2. Canobie Lake Park, Salem
Annual trips to Canobie Lake Park were always a highlight of my childhood summers, and now I get to experience the thrill and fun of the rides and attractions with my children. The park's small size is what makes it such a charming place to visit. Featuring both new rides and old favorites, as well as games, performances, and a water park, Canobie packs in the fun day and night, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Canobie Lake Park is open seasonally, with weekends and holidays only beginning in mid-May, daily from June through August, and weekends only in September and October.
3. Whale's Tale Water Park, Lincoln
Speaking of waterparks, the town of Lincoln has one that is perfect for families. Open seasonally, Whale’s Tale features a lazy river, wave pool, splash area, surfing pool, and tons of adventurous slides, so there is something for everyone to enjoy. Book a stay at nearby Indian Head Resort and make an entire weekend out of your visit to the White Mountains. Visit the Whale's Tale Water Park website for opening dates and hours.
Indoor Play Centers Perfect for Rainy Days in New Hampshire
4. Funspot, Laconia
What could be better than a New Hampshire family outing to an arcade? How about a family outing to the largest arcade in the world? This iconic NH attraction is a family favorite and a must-stop whenever we visit the Lakes region. The year-round venue features more than 600 games, including many classic throwbacks, mini-golf, bowling, kiddie rides, and nightly bingo. Funspot is open daily from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays.
5. SEE Science Center, Manchester
The SEE Science Center is one of my favorite spots to visit in my hometown of Manchester, and one of the best things to do in NH with kids. I always learn something new by participating in the museum's interactive exhibits, demonstrations, and special events. I can never get enough of the gigantic replica of the historic Manchester Millyard, built from more than 3 million Legos. SEE Science Center is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and closed Mondays.
Unique Attractions Kids Will Remember Long After
6. Strawberry Banke Museum, Portsmouth
History and fun come together at this unique attraction in Portsmouth. Strawberry Banke is an outdoor living history museum where adults and kids learn about centuries of American history by visiting with colonial reenactors, observing craft demonstrations, and touring on-site historic houses. This interactive museum makes a great day trip for all ages. Strawberry Banke Museum is open seasonally from late-April through November 1, and you can purchase tickets online.
7. Squam Lake Science Center, Holderness
Both adults and kids will have a blast at Squam Lake Science Center in Holderness. My family visited several years ago and had so much fun observing the animals, including black bears, learning fun facts about nature, and participating in the interactive exhibits. There is also an incredible play area, which the kids could not get enough of. I think it's one of the most kid-friendly activities in New Hampshire, and you will, too!
