The Plainsman Museum is located in the little town of Aurora, just a little east of Grand Island.
The museum is dedicated to chronicling, preserving, and sharing the unique history of Hamilton County and the surrounding area.
It also presents fascinating information about the history of the Great Plains, focusing specifically on Nebraska's place in this vast region.
The museum's timeline is roughly between 1860 and 1950. As you can imagine, this was a time of great change in the Great Plains.
This remarkable museum has many areas to explore, but one of the most beloved is the indoor "town."
You can stroll past buildings just as they would have appeared in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and even go into them to see interesting artifacts.
Explore what stores and offices were like way back then...
...And even enter some historically accurate recreated homes.
Take your time with each part of the museum; there's a whole lot to see in every area.
There are five buildings and even a genuine Burlington Northern caboose to discover. Each building is filled with artifacts that you'll want to spend some time examining. They tell the stories of the plains that you won't hear anywhere else.
