Did you know that there's a winery tucked away in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee? It's true! Belle Meade Winery is best known for its location on the historic Belle Meade plantation, but the winery, founded in 2009, is one of the best spots to visit if you're looking for local wines. Learn more about the plantation's speckled history below, and perhaps plan a trip to the historic site for yourself. There's something so humbling and fascinating about a step back in time, and the American South offers history in spades.
Belle Meade Plantation is a historic mansion that once encompassed over 5,000 acres of Nashville real estate. The expansive site has shifted from a private property to a museum, winery, and historic attraction for visitors from all over the world.
The mansion's architecture is known far and wide for its beauty and Greek Revival style. There are two tours that will take you through the historic estate, including the Mansion Tour and the Journey to Jubilee Tour. Both examine the history of the plantation through the stories and experiences of the men, women, and children who labored on-site.
The Belle Meade Winery was founded in 2009 and has since become a go-to spot for local wine-seekers. The winery itself was actually dreamt up as a non-profit fundraiser for the continued preservation of the historic mansion, and it remains so to this day.
Folks come from all over the world to enjoy a sip of wine on the lush, luxurious Nashville property. The winery focuses on blackberry and Muscadine wines, but you'll find a lengthy list of red, white, and sparkling wines as well.
You can book a tasting online for food and wine pairings, or you can choose to indulge in the complimentary wine tasting that comes with the purchase of a ticket to one of the Belle Meade daily public tours. Private tastings are also available by reservation only.
The Belle Meade Winery hosts a series of tastings throughout the week, including a chef-inspired food and wine pairing on Fridays at noon, and a bourbon pairing on Friday afternoons.
The Belle Meade Winery is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day of the week.
You can learn more about the Historic Belle Meade Winery with a visit to its official Facebook page and website. The historic site now operates as a museum, winery, and on-site restaurant, so there's a little something for everyone.
