Skate Into A Winter Wonderland At This Outdoor Ice Rink In Montana

If there was ever a state made for winter it's Montana! We certainly love the green and blues of spring and summer, but there's something exhilarating about cold air and fresh snow. Getting away for the weekend, or even just a day, of skiing is great but local ice skating somehow feels oh-so Montana. If you agree, make your way to Helena for a visit to the Memorial Park Warming House & Ice Rink. Open just after Christmas, this outdoor ice rink in Montana is one of the best winter activities in the area.

Memorial Park is located in the heart of Helena and offers a place for fun throughout the year. In the spring and summer, you might recognize it as a tree-filled spot for enjoying the breeze.

But, in the winter, the park offers a whole new kind of fun. When covered in snow the entire place is beautiful.

In addition to calm and beauty, it's also one of the best places to enjoy the winter in Montana! Each year the the Parks Maintenance department creates the rink by laying layers of ice on top of the already water-soaked land that freezes in the winter.

Skate rentals are free and time on the ice is affordable enough that a family can enjoy an afternoon here for under $10.

In addition to ice skating, it's not uncommon to see hockey and other sports.

Perhaps this is the year you explore your curling talents!

After enjoying the ice rink, check out the warming hut for other activities.

The ice rink is weather-dependent, so keep your fingers crossed for a chilly season this year!

The Memorial Park Warming House & Ice Rink is open for the 2023-2024 season beginning December 26, 2023. It stays open, weather-dependent, through February 25, 2024. The rink is open Wednesday through Sunday at varying hours. During school breaks, the rink offers extended hours. You can also rent out the rink for special events. Check the Memorial Park Warming House & Ice Rink on Facebook. You can also visit the Helena, Montana website for more information. The rink can be reached at 406-443-8774.

Before heading out for a few hours of ice skating, you'll want to ensure you're warm and cozy. Be sure you have the right gear to make the most of your time. And, while you're in Helena, be sure to visit the massive indoor adventure park.
