Montana is well-known for its connection to dinosaurs—we do have an entire dinosaur trail, after all. But if you don't have time to chase fossils all over Montana, simply visit the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman. The world-class exhibits will blow your mind.
The Museum of the Rockies is a non-profit organization as well as a world-class cultural and natural history museum and research facility.
It also happens to be accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, which is a huge deal. Of the 33,000 museums nationwide, less than 1,100 of them have this honor.
More than anything, the Museum of the Rockies is renowned for displaying an extensive collection of dinosaur fossils...
...and that includes a fully mounted T.Rex skeleton.
Montana's T.Rex was found near Fort Peck Lake in 1997, and it's one of the most complete dinosaur skeletons that has ever been found.
The collection of dinosaur bones here is truly remarkable.
No wonder people from all over the country (and beyond) come to see it.
As fantastic as the fossils and dinosaur skeletons are, however, they aren't the museum's only draw.
There are always changing exhibits from around the world, regional and natural history exhibits, lectures, educational programs, and even a full-on planetarium.
Paugh History Hall shares the compelling stories that connect us with the Northern Rocky Mountain.
These permanent exhibits portray the cultural and social changes made by those who called this region home before us.
The Museum of the Rockies is an absolute must-see.
Luckily, it's open daily (aside from major holidays) from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., so you'll have plenty of chances to explore.
If you can only visit one museum in Montana, you'll definitely want to make it to this one. To plan your trip, check out the current schedule on the official website.
