This State Park In Missouri Is So Little Known, You’ll Practically Have It All To Yourself

We all probably have our own favorite state park in Missouri, that one place to which we can escape when we crave some time  among nature. However, Missouri's home to 92 state parks, which means we can overlook a few. Next time you're up for exploring a different Missouri state park, plan a day (or a getaway!) at Lake Wappapello State Park.

If you like having plenty of room to roam and to explore, you'll find just what you're looking for at Lake Wappapello State Park in Williamsville.

Flanking Lake Wappapello, the 1,854-acre state park offers a whole lot to do, so the whole family is sure to find something to love.

The lake, of course, is the focal point of the sprawling state park. Explore by kayak or canoe. You'll find three boat launches in different areas of the park.

Summertime's perfect for a day trip, especially if you enjoy time on the beach. The sandy beach leads directly into the water, although there are no lifeguards on duty. Take precautions.

Even if you don't feel like spending time on or in the water, you'll find a ton to do. Set off on one of the hiking trails that meanders through the park.

You might even cross paths with local wildlife and pass colorful wildflowers during the warmer months. Both horseback riding and biking are popular on the trails, too.

A day might not be enough to get your fill of nature, especially at this expansive Missouri state park. Pitch a tent near the lake for a night under the stars.

Or rent a cabin if you prefer having modern amenities.
