The Former 1873 General Store Is Now A Must Visit Restaurant In Missouri

Hendel's Restaurant in Old Town Florissant, Missouri, offers a historic dining experience with a rich past and a diverse menu.

Originally, the restaurant, which still features a candy counter at the entrance, served as a general and a grocery store, beginning in 1873.

And, the Hendel family purchased the shop in 1915, running the beloved business as a specialty grocery store and butcher shop until Henry and Marge Hendel sold the shop in 1993.

Today, the general and grocery store turned restaurant is owned by the Bennett family, who pay homage to the shop's rich history with photos from the past adorning the walls and a menu of delectable dishes.

Visiting for lunch? Try an assortment of scrumptious options, such as the smoked pastrami, the lemon chicken pasta, or the Hendel burger.

Or, if you've stopped by for dinner, peruse the generous menu that features such entrees as New York strip steak, fish tacos, and charbroiled salmon.

Of course, Hendel's Restaurant also serves a variety of fresh salads. Try the veggie salad, the salmon salad, or the loaded kale salad, for example.
