9 Terrifying Things In Minnesota That Can (And Just Might) Kill You

Minnesota poses various risks to residents, from extreme weather to wildlife and overexertion.

Minnesota is a beautiful and fun state, and along with all that awesomeness comes some risk. Of course heart attacks, cancer, strokes, and lung disease seem to take the majority of MN residents, but there are a few other things that you probably know might just lead to your untimely death in Minnesota. Yes, they can be somewhat ridiculous, but these have all actually caused deaths in MN, directly or indirectly. So hopefully you can learn something, and not just chuckle, at these 9 dangers:

1. Winter

Everyone who lives here knows that winter in MN is made to kill you in a variety of ways, from blizzards to freezing temperatures to icy and snowy roads. Basically you're better off staying inside (as long as it's warm).

2. Bears

They look adorable and cuddly but they will absolutely kill you if you get too close, especially if you get too close to a cub and momma is around. Momma is always around.

3. Overexertion (too much fun)

It's really a serious problem in Minnesota, and the 3rd leading cause of unintentional injury in the US according to the National Safety Council. Especially with all these lakes! There's too much fun to be had and not enough hours in the day - you might just fun yourself into the ground.

4. Exhaustion

Along with pure overexertion comes plain old exhaustion. Minnesotans are hard workers and you can also find yourself worked to death, or to exhaustion where you'll be less likely to notice a bear nearby that could kill you (and that coincidentally got a lot of rest).

5. Mosquitos

These terrifying tiny creatures will literally eat you alive, if not spread disease.

6. Tornadoes

You should probably make sure you have all your emergency supplies ready, because if a tornado doesn't kill you, it will still kill your house.

7. Overindulgence (in fried foods)

I know it tastes amazing, but it can definitely have some serious consequences.

8. Heat

The MN summer can be just as harsh as the winter with the heat and humidity. Stay hydrated and stay in the lake to avoid an untimely death.

9. Driving

Whether it's due to the weather or just plain old bad driving, accidents in MN might just kill you. Especially if you live in Arden Hills, Wayzata, Waite Park, St. Cloud, or Minneapolis. They have, in that order, the most accidents per capita in the state.

While you probably won't die from too much fun, there's still a grain of truth to all of these. And they're all better than dying in Wisconsin, right?
