Sisu and Löyly Nordic Sauna in Grand Marais, one of the premier saunas in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, has launched a new venture - quite literally. In September 2023, Sisu and Löyly launched the first public floating sauna in Minnesota and what’s believed to be the first in the United States.
Sisu and Löyly Nordic Sauna splashed onto the Grand Marais scene in 2021, and folks quickly began lining up to take advantage of its relaxing vibes and stunning views.
Within a couple of years, it had also added a mobile sauna, so you could reserve a steam and have the sauna brought to you, rather than seeking out the sauna, yourself.
Inspired by the floating saunas that line the fjords of Scandinavia, Sisu and Löyly’s proprietors commissioned one for their business.
Sisu and Löyly launched its floating sauna on Grand Marais Harbor in September 2023.
The cozy and steamy vessel boasts several windows, so guests can enjoy plenty of natural light while they relax.
They also afford incredible views of whatever body of water the sauna happens to be plying.
In fall of 2023, the floating sauna will move to a dock on Devil Track Lake, just off the Gunflint Trail outside of Grand Marais.
One of the benefits of the floating spa is the built-in cold plunge.
Or if you prefer a more gradual cool down, you can certainly just enjoy the views from the deck.
You’re certain to feel refreshed and relaxed after a steam in Sisu and Löyly’s floating sauna. Visit Sisu and Löyly’s website for more information about the floating sauna and signing up for a session. The Nordic sauna also maintains a fantastic Facebook presence, so be sure to check it out for stunning pictures of the sauna and the Grand Marais area. You’re definitely going to want a little refreshment after your steam - head to Shook Smoothies for a cool treat or Java Moose Cafe for a hot drink - they’re two of my favorite spots in Minnesota. If you’re not local, be sure to book a hotel room or vacation rental and explore this part of the North Shore, as well as the Gunflint Trail. You may not want to leave!
Have you visited Sisu and Löyly Nordic Sauna for a steam? Do you think you’ll try the floating sauna? Let us know in the comments! I’m really look forward to trying it out, myself!
