Milwaukee is a city on the rise and is known for a lot of things: cheese, good people, and beer (obviously). What you might not know is that our community is constantly growing in culture too. Whether you're a fan of history, art, or science, these 10 museums will give you your fill.

1. Milwaukee Art Museum

The Milwaukee Art Museum is truly an experience you don't want to miss. The building itself is art! MAM features special exhibits that are constantly rotating, as well as three floors full of contemporary works, ancient artifacts, stunning photography, and more. They also offer a creative lab for kids to create art, so there's something for the whole family. This is one museum you can visit time and time again and still discover something new each time. Admission is also free on the first Thursday of every month!

2. Harley Davidson Museum

This museum is perfect for any biker! Take a stroll through the history of Harley, and even virtually build your own bike with their simulator. This museum teaches you absolutely everything you need to know about Harley-Davidson, and the history of motorcycles in general.

3. Milwaukee Public Museum

Though it might not look like much from the outside, there is so much to see inside! Equipped with multiple floors that take you throughout the history of the world, you can spend days in here exploring the works. The MPM is home to the world's largest dinosaur head and an IMAX theater dome. The Old Streets of Milwaukee will take you on a walk back in time, and the Native American floor features an exhibit with a real, moving pow-wow. Come any day of the week, but the first Thursdays of the month are free!

4. Discovery World

This iconic building on the lakefront is actually a museum! Discovery World is a science and technology learning center for people of all ages. They have tons of interactive experiences for kids. Discovery World also offers an aquarium and sail rides on their Tall Ship. This interactive museum is fun for the whole family, and memberships are affordable, too.

5. Betty Brinn Children's Museum

The Betty Brinn is a great place to spend an afternoon with the kids. This hands-on children's museum offers a completely interactive space for kids to learn and have fun doing it. The museum was named after a successful business woman who spent much of her childhood in foster homes and dedicated her adult life to helping women and children in the Milwaukee area obtain healthcare. This museum is a non-profit doing a lot for Milwaukee, and it's a ton of fun!

6. Grohmann Museum

Located downtown on MSOE's campus is a little art museum called "The Grohmann." There are three floors filled with fine art and their glass dome features stained glass art pieces. Their rooftop sculpture garden is one exhibit you can't miss, and you may even catch a glimpse of Milwaukee's skyline that is unlike any other.

7. Jewish Museum Milwaukee

This east side museum is dedicated to bringing awareness to Jewish life and history, especially for those of southeastern Wisconsin. The Jewish community in Milwaukee is tight-knit and this museum gives an extensive look into their heritage.

8. War Memorial Center

The Milwaukee War Memorial Center sits directly above the art museum, one of the most visible lakefront museums. Their mission is "To Honor the Dead by Serving the Living." This WWII memorial has served fallen soldiers and their families since 1957.

9. Charles Allis Art Museum

This house on the hill is tucked away, but offers a lot of amazing architectural and art history. The house was designed by a Milwaukee architect for Charles Allis and his wife, Sarah. The 1900s Tudor-style mansion is now a rich museum with changing exhibits, and one of the few that still preserves its original structure.

10. Haggerty Museum of Art

The Haggerty Museum of Art is located on Marquette University's campus. This museum is open to the public daily and offers exhibits on every type of art imaginable. As a teaching museum, they also work closely with local artists and schools to design educational programs.
