The Remarkable Bridge Near Detroit That Everyone Should Visit At Least Once
Discover the historical and scenic Delhi Bridge near Detroit, perfect for a day trip with its unique architecture and beautiful surroundings.
If you’re fascinated by unique architecture, historical charm, and natural beauty, there’s one incredible spot near the Motor City that belongs on your bucket list. When you’re looking for the perfect day trip from Detroit, hop in your car and embark on a scenic drive to one of the area’s most compelling structures: a long-standing bridge that’s sure to impress.
The Delhi Bridge can be found where E Delhi Road crosses the Huron River in Ann Arbor.
This one-of-a-kind structure, sometimes referred to as the East Delhi Bridge, boasts a storied past and plenty of lovely surroundings to keep visitors gazing all year-round.
The bridge, which is made of wrought iron, was originally constructed in 1883. Following a post-fire renovation in 1917, it remained open until another temporary closure in 2005.
In 2009, the bridge opened to traffic yet again and has remained in operation ever since. It features space for just one lane of traffic and catches eyes with its rust-red coloring.
At just over 111 feet long, it’s large enough to command attention without overwhelming its natural surroundings. The views you’ll enjoy as you drive across are truly lovely.
In every season, the Huron River delights with its bankside foliage and mesmerizing water. You might even spot a kayaker or two making their way down the scenic waterway.
After driving across the bridge and snapping a few photos, head to the adjacent Delhi Metropark to explore 81 acres of outdoor space. There’s something here for everyone.
Whether you’re a history buff, a sucker for bridges in general, or simply an adventurous Detroiter seeking a unique escape, a visit to the beautiful Delhi Bridge will provide plenty of fun.
