Your Sweet Tooth Will Swoon Over This Two-Day Maple Festival In Massachusetts

Winter is wrapping up and the start of spring is just around the corner. What better time to get outside and have some fun? If you are like me and have a bit of a sweet tooth, I know of an event that will delight your palate. The weekend of March 16-17, 2024 is Maple Weekend here in Massachusetts and there are tons of places all over the state where you can learn all about the maple sugaring process and sample some tasty maple treats!

Twenty-two maple producers from across the state will participate in this fun weekend, which is hosted by the Massachusetts Maple Producers Association. Highlights include sugarhouse tours, boiling demonstrations, maple tastings, breakfasts, shopping, and tons of family fun.

I always find it fascinating to take a maple sugar tour and view the hands-on process of making maple syrup. If you have never taken a tour, this weekend is the perfect opportunity to do so! Several Massachusetts sugarhouses will be tapping trees and boiling up syrup.

On a visit to the Hardwick Sugar Shack in Hardwick, you can see how syrup is made by using multiple methods, including over an open fire and with the use of modern-day technology.

If you would like to learn all about the different grades of maple syrup (there are four of them), you may want to visit Cranston’s Tree Farm in Ashfield. The farm will be offering tours, grade samples, and opportunities to purchase their delicious maple products.

While learning about the maple syrup process is certainly interesting, the real fun begins when you get to eat it! You will be happy to know that many of the Massachusetts sugarhouses and restaurants that are participating in the Maple Weekend will also be hosting some delicious meals.

At the Ioka Valley Farm in Hancock, you can sample their maple syrup over waffles, french toast, and pancakes in the farm’s Calf-A.

High Hopes Farm Sugarhouse in Worthington will also be serving a scrumptious breakfast buffet. Homemade scrambled eggs, ham, sausage, and pancakes are just a few of the choices here.

You definitely will want to purchase some delicious maple products to bring home with you. The farms and sugarhouses featured on Maple Weekend sell everything from maple candies to maple-coated nuts to maple cream.

And of course, some sweet maple syrup. Once you taste the real stuff, there is no turning back!
