Unique attractions are plentiful in Maryland, but there is one in particular that's filled to the brim with originality and quirkiness. If you're a lover of art and all-things-weird, then you're going to want to visit the following museum.
Have you ever driven by this shiny building in Baltimore and wondered what it was?
This whimsical place is known as the American Visionary Art Museum. What makes this spot so special is that it focuses on visionary art, rather than most museums, which only display professional artists' work.
According to the website, visionary art is defined as "art produced by self-taught individuals, usually without formal training, whose works arise from an innate personal vision that revels foremost in the creative act itself."
Since the definition of art here straddles the line, the works and installations you'll see are truly imaginative. Open your mind as you become immersed in this surreal experience.
From one-of-a-kind robots made from recycled materials...
To this magnificent mosaic school bus, there's truly no other place like it.
Afterwards, visit the Sideshow Shop, where you can purchase funky little trinkets to take home as a souvenir.
And if you really want to get weird (and creative!), check out the museum's annual Kinetic Sculpture Race.
American Visionary Art Museum is located at 800 Key Highway, Baltimore, Maryland 21230. Visit the website here.
