Overlooking The Gulf Of Maine, This Picturesque Chapel Is A Peaceful Place For Fresh Air

St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Kennebunkport, Maine, offers a peaceful retreat with beautiful coastal views and historic chapels.

There are lots of beautiful small towns hidden throughout Maine, but a few stand out as well-known. One of the best known is little Kennebunkport. The town, while small, is one of the most visited in the state and if you're there on a beautiful summer day you're likely to be surrounded by people. That's when you need to find places that provide a respite from the hustle-and-bustle. Places like this little chapel!

St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Kennebunkport is a beautiful place for worship, but it's also one of the most peaceful spots for views of the coast.

There are two different chapels on the grounds. The Stone Chapel has been in continuous summer use since 1892 when it was consecrated.

Services are held here when the weather is cold or rainy and it's beautiful.

The entire structure is made of stone and the inside feels cozy.

But step outside and things really become special.

The outdoor Seaside Chapel is used whenever possible and it offers spectacular views.

Each year, during the blessing of the animals, even puppies give their seal of approval!

Visiting without an organized visit is not only allowed, it's encouraged! Just be sure to be mindful of the land and structures on it.

There are lots of places to stop and enjoy some quiet time. The flowers, plants, and trees are gorgeous.

Even when Dock Square is bustling, you'll often find the chapel grounds peaceful.

This is a great way to take in the Maine coast, while also finding a few moments of peacefulness.

St. Ann's By-the-Sea Episcopal Church is open to visitors from Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to sunset, unless there's a special event. On Sunday the grounds are open to visitors from the time the weekly service ends to sunset. This weekly service takes place from mid-June through Labor Day at the Seaside Chapel at 8 a.m. If it rains the service takes place inside the Stone Chapel. You can learn more about the chapel by visiting their website or following them on Facebook. Remember that this is a place of worship, so always be respectful when visiting. Do not climb on structures or use them as picnic areas. The chapel can be reached on 207-967-8043.

While you're considering a visit to this beautiful spot, you might as well plan a full trip to Kennebunkport, one of Maine's most charming historic towns.
