One Of The Longest Covered Bridges In Maine, Watson Settlement Bridge, Is 150 Feet Long

It's always fun to hear about Maine's history. From stories about our early days to checking out local museums, there's always something new to learn about Vacationland. One of my favorite parts of the state's history is as simple as how people lived each day. There's history to be learned in everything we do, including how we get around. Quaint, covered bridges have become synonymous with New England and Maine is no exception. Check out the beauty and the history of the longest one in the state! It's one of the most lovely covered bridges in Maine.

Located all the way up in The County, the Watson Settlement Bridge is a lovely structure with quite a bit of history.

It was built in 1911 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.

Originally built to allow for passage over the Meduxnekeag River via Framingham Road, a newer bridge was built to the south, closing this one to vehicular traffic and making it perfect for a walk.

In every season, this bridge is lovely. And if you're looking for a quintessential covered bridge, this is a lovely day trip.

It's best to park nearby and then walk over it, enjoying the trees surrounding it.

While this is Maine's longest covered bridge, the walk over is actually short. So, you can be back in your car and onto more exploring in no time!
