This Story Of This Haunted Cemetery In Maine Is Not For The Faint Of Heart

Anderson Cemetery in Windham, Maine, is considered one of the most haunted places in the state with numerous reports of paranormal activity.

Maine has its fair share of beauty. While we may be biased, we’d argue that it’s the best-looking state in New England. But, with along with all the good things like fall foliage, delicious apple cider donuts, and great road trips - there’s some creepy stuff. From haunted lighthouses to entire Maine college campuses that are reportedly full of spirits, Maine’s long history means lots of stories of hauntings, and Anderson Cemetery is one of them. It might just be one of the most haunted places in Maine.

Anderson Cemetery, or Smith-Anderson Cemetery as some people call it, is one of the oldest burial grounds in the tiny town of Windham, Maine.

In addition to being a historically important place in town, it’s also said to be one of the most haunted places in Maine.

It’s the final resting place of a number of notable, early Windham residents including the Anderson family after whom the cemetery is named.

While they take up a significant portion of the land, there are other families here from various walks of life and religions.

A number of paranormal groups have investigated the area, including both the Maine Ghost Hunters and the Southern Maine Paranormal Society to determine the validity of these Maine ghost stories.

During each investigation at Anderson Cemetery, mysterious orbs have appeared in photos. Some explorers report hearing a male voice and one has even reported seeing the faint image of a male face in a photo taken at the cemetery.

One of the most talked-about areas is the "den," which was created as an area for bodies that were awaiting a grave to be created.

People report that a male spirit is housed here - and he’s not friendly.

Another notable area of the cemetery is the Anderson family crypt, which is quite large.

Visitors report hearing a distinct knocking sound coming from the structure, even though no one is around.

It’s not clear why this particular cemetery has so many reports of spirits and haunting but it’s clear that something’s going on here.

In addition to the den area and the family crypt area, many people have reported having their cars move while they’re exploring the cemetery.

Even more chilling is that cars have been left unlocked and owners returned to find them locked. Visitors have even watched the car locks move up and down.

Of course, there are many explanations for things that happen in places reported to be haunted.
