Absolutely Gigantic, You Could Easily Spend All Day Shopping At Hussey’s General Store In Maine

Maine certainly has some unique attractions. From an inexplicable desert in Freeport to some unusual museums, Maine is a great place to visit if you love the quirkier side of life. In some cases, this even extends to our shopping experiences! This general store is not only huge, but it's also full of things you never knew you needed!

Windsor might by one of the smaller towns in the state, but it’s got one of the biggest general stores in Maine.

And by “biggest” might also mean “weirdest.” But we’ll get to that.

Hussey’s General Store opened its doors in 1923, but moved to its current location at the intersection of Routes 32 and 105 in 1954.

The store is still owned by the Hussey family who hold fast to their claim of it being the largest general store in the entire state. Given that it occupies 30,000 square feet of space, we believe it!

They have just about everything Mainers might need, including building supplies, vintage camping parts, home decor and toys.

And, in the words of their slogan, “If we ain’t got it, you don’t need it!”

Of course, you can certainly get things you do need. They’re an Ace Hardware Franchise, after all. But they’re also known for offering a pretty offbeat combination of merchandise.

The sign promising "Guns — Wedding Gowns — Cold Beer" isn’t a way to get tourists inside. It’s actually the truth!

The store says they sell about 200 wedding gowns a year. In some cases they’re rung up with hunting, fishing and camping gear.

Even if you don't intend on getting married any time soon. And even if you don't find yourself in need of a giant moose head, hunting jacket or fly-reel Hussey's is worth a visit. We can almost guarantee with something you didn't realized you needed!
