Here Are 10 Awesome Things You Can Do In Maine For $10 Or Less

Discover fun and affordable activities to do in Maine, many of which are free or under $10.

They say the best things in life are free, and that's certainly true (though we think that sometimes, it's worth it to pay $10 for something truly awesome). There's plenty to see and do in Maine for less than 10 bucks, and many of the things listed here are free!

1. Visit Fort Williams Park.

Enjoy a picnic, stroll through the arboretum and children's garden and take lots of photographs. The best part? It's free! 299 Ocean House Road, Cape Elizabeth.

2. Have a blast at the Harvest Fest at Pineland Farms.

The Harvest Fest on October 22nd from 10am to 3pm offers a corn maze, obstacle course, "Click Clack Boo Woods Walk, face painting and more! Admission is $6 per person; the showing of "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" are free! Older kids might prefer to visit the Haunted Woods Walk and Creepy Corn Maze on October 21st and 22nd from 6pm-9pm; admission to both is $6. 15 Farm View Drive, New Gloucester.

3. Spend the afternoon browsing at Big Chicken Barn & Antiques.

This humungous antique barn (21,600 sq. feet!) is just brimming with treasures. It's free to browse of course, but for $10 or less you're sure to find a fun little bauble. 1768 Bucksport Road, Ellsworth.

4. Catch a flick at the retro Magic Lantern Movie Theater.

Each of the three theaters at Magic Lantern feature some of their retro furnishings, and you can even sit in the balcony! Adult admission is just $7.50. 9 Depot Street, Bridgton.

5. Build a fairy house on Mackworth Island.

Use natural materials to build a special house for the fairies on the island. This is a fun activity for the whole family, and it's free!

6. Take a hike at Baxter State Park.

Spend the day hiking the trails at Baxter State Park. You'll need a parking reservation in advance ($5). Click here for details. For just $15, you can camp overnight. 65 Balsam Drive, Millinocket.

7. Ride the ferry from Portland to one Maine's gorgeous islands.

After October 15th, rates go down. Travel to Peaks Island for just $4.10 per passenger, or go all the way out to Cliff Island for $7.45. Visit the other five islands for ferry rates in-between those prices!

8. Take the horse-drawn farm tour at Treworgy Family Orchards

This fun farm tour is just $4.50 per person. Enjoy the fall foliage, and pet the goats! Grab a snack of cider and donuts before you leave. 3876 Union Street, Levant.

9. Take a tour and enjoy a tasting at one of Maine's best breweries.

Visit Allagash Brewing Company for a free tour and four 3 oz. samples of beer. They're open seven days a week! 50 Industrial Way, Portland.

10. Have a "berry" good time at Wild Blueberry Land.

See the "World's Largest Blueberry," take a selfie on the Wild Blueberry Throne, then grab a blueberry cookie and some coffee. 1067 U S Highway 1, Columbia Falls.
