6 Paved And Beautiful Paths In Louisiana That Are Perfect For A Family Bike Ride

Dust those bikes off, it's time to set out on an adventure. These six paved bike trails are a wonderful way to spend an afternoon with the whole family while spending some quality time outdoors. From wetlands to window shopping, these trails will lead you through beautiful natural settings, historic downtown neighborhoods, and so much more. Don't forget to wear your helmet!

1. Mississippi River Trail (Baton Rouge)

This lovely out-and back level trail in Baton Rouge is just shy of five miles long and is a great path the whole family can enjoy.

2. Mississippi River Trail (New Orleans)

Also known as the levee path or the levee trail, no matter what you call it, you can call it a good time. Starting near the Audubon Zoo and following the river all the way to Rivertown, you can expect to see it all along this 12-mile scenic ride. You’ll pass through commercial areas with nearby restaurants and shopping opportunities and gorgeous Mississippi River views.

3. Tammany Trace

Probably the most well-known bike trail in Louisiana is the Tammany Trace. At over 30 miles long, this paved rail-trail appeals to both bikers and hikers alike. The trail will take you through five charming towns in St. Tammany Parish along the way, perfect for quick pit stops, shopping, or a bite to eat.

4. Lafitte Greenway

Right in the heart of New Orleans sits a charming little park that’s great for an afternoon outing. The 2.6-mile linear park has over two miles of paved trails, great for a quick ride in a city setting.

5. New Orleans City Park Bike Paths

The 1,300-acre urban oasis in the heart of the crescent city has too many amenities to mention, but their four miles of bike paths are at the top of the list. You can even rent a bike from the Boathouse near Big Lake in the park if you don’t want to transport yours.

6. Red River Bicycle Trail

This lovely little bike trail starts in downtown Shreveport and runs for eight miles south of town, passing by several green spaces, parks, and the always popular Sci-Port Discovery Center.
