Tucked away in Morgan City, Mr. Charlie is an authentic offshore drilling rig that you can visit.

Built in 1954, this rig drilled hundreds of offshore wells off the coast of Morgan City.

With a barge clocking in around 220 feet and a width of 85 feet, this massive structure was the first transportable, submersible drilling rig ever built.

Initially, it drew skepticism from the industry, but Mr. Charlie helped springboard the offshore rig technology and ended up exceeding expectations, going on to have an impressive 40 years of service before being retired when drilling reached water deeper than his "legs."

During your visit, you’ll be able to step onto the rig and explore all of the rooms.

Mr. Charlie could accommodate a crew of 58 and was equipped with everything to make the rig almost entirely self-sufficient.

You'll get to see the dining hall/kitchen area...

From diving to drilling, you'll learn all about the history of offshore drilling through the eyes of this instrumental rig.

Tours are given Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
