">One of the best things about life in Kansas is that we're a little bit wacky. From the world's largest ball of twine to an outhouse festival, if there's anything you can say about the Sunflower State, it's that it's certainly unique. If you're wanting to see just that on display, we've got a wonderful celebration for you: the International Pancake Day Celebration in Liberal, KS. This year's event is scheduled for Tuesday, February 13, 2024, and like always, it's going to be a fun-filled event celebrating all things flapjack. Check it out:
Liberal is a city of just under 20,000 people that's tucked away in quiet southwest Kansas, not too far from the border with Oklahoma.
It's here that each year, the day before Lent begins, International Pancake Day is celebrated.
The event has been going on since 1950 and features an array of fun activities.
The full-day event begins with a pancake breakfast followed up by a pancake-eating contest and a parade.
The real highlight of the day, though, is the Pancake Day Race. The competition is the only one of its kind in the world.
Women in Liberal, KS and Olney, England compete in this unique international event. The competitors race 415 yards through the streets of their respective towns while flipping pancakes.
This event is sure to be a ton of fun, and it's certainly among the most unique events in Kansas.
