Five Different Planets Will Align In The Kansas Night Sky During An Incredibly Rare Display

Kansas offers a diverse array of natural wonders, from canyons and caves to waterfalls and scenic byways, that defy its "flyover state" reputation.

No matter what age you are, the night sky is a fascinating thing. It's incredible to look up and think how much is going on up there and how small we really are here on planet Earth. Looking up at the night sky is going to be exceptionally impressive this month, though, because we're being treated to a rare astronomical display. Five different planets will be aligned in a "planetary parade" that is incredibly rare. The best part about this occurrence is you don't even need any special equipment to witness it - no telescope or special binoculars are required! Just wake up early and head out to a dimly lit area to check out the Kansas sky.

Stargazing in Kansas is always spectacular, especially when you're away from the lights of the big cities. But at the end of March 2023, you'll find it especially amazing.

At the end of March, Jupiter, Mercury, Venus, Uranus, and Mars will be all lined up in a row in a "planetary parade" for the first time in a long time!

You'll be able to catch this remarkable celestial event each morning just before sunrise. The best views are expected the (very early) morning of March 27th, as Jupiter will start hiding from us again after the 28th.

Incredibly, you'll be able to see this without the use of any special equipment! It's not every day you get to witness an astronomical event that doesn't require a telescope.

You can observe the planetary parade in March 2023 by looking right up alongside the moon. You'll want to make sure you're in an area far away from city lights.

Celestial events like this one are such a sharp reminder of how large the universe truly is.

Are you planning to set your alarm to view this celestial event in the Sunflower State? We've got some great dark sky parks in Kansas that are fantastic spots to view the planetary parade!
