During most of the year, the Midwest Central Railroad Museum in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa is a lovely place to visit. You can take vintage train rides through the Hawkeye State landscape, and during the winter it becomes a Polar Express train. But for a few weekends every October, it becomes something very different - something terrifying. Welcome to Midwest Haunted Rails, a massive Halloween attraction in Iowa that features a ghost train, a haunted house, carnival rides, concessions - and the only haunted trolley in Iowa, taking visitors through a terrifying landscape of ghosts and goblins. Do you dare to get on board? The trolley is expecting you...
The Midwest Central Railroad is one of Iowa's top destinations for train lovers - and for Halloween lovers.
Their Midwest Haunted Rails event turns the complex into a massive Halloween carnival every year - with an all-inclusive option for only $15 for all attractions.
The signature attraction is definitely the Haunted Trolley, which has you board a vintage streetcar in the dead of night...
But this is no ordinary trolley ride. It takes you into the realm of the undead as you encounter ghastly scarecrows and other ghouls.
If it feels like the Grim Reaper is stalking you, he just might be...
The freaks and monsters occupying the trolley ride differ every year, but you can always expect some ghoulish surprises.
There are even some clever references to the museum's rail heritage, such as these skeletons on an old-fashioned handcar.
Keep an eye out for the graveyards on the route and see how many jokes you can spot on the tombstones before your haunted ride comes to a stop!
If you're feeling brave after your haunted trolley tour, you can also hop on over to Thrashers House of Terror, which is NEXT. LEVEL.
The ticket booth closes at midnight, so you'll have plenty of time to get your late-night spook fix.
