This White Water Adventure In Indiana Is An Outdoor Lover’s Dream

East Race Waterway in South Bend, Indiana, offers a unique whitewater rafting experience on the first man-made whitewater course in the United States.

Do you ever have a craving for adventure? Same! When I get that feeling, you know what helps most of the time? Well, a lot of things - like embarking on some of the best hiking trails in Indiana - but right now, I want to chat about an absolutely awesome adventure open during the warm months that you're probably going to fall in love with just like I did. It's an exciting whitewater adventure in Indiana - yes, it's a thing! - that you're sure to love. It's truly unique, being the only adventure of its kind, but I think you'll be left wanting even more by the time you're done. Let's go!

Greetings from the East Race Waterway, the very first man-made whitewater course in the United States.

It's nestled in the town of South Bend, which often gets a lot of guff - but believe me, it's way more exciting than you might think. There are all sorts of things to do in this town, but East Race Waterway might just be the best of them all.

The course is about 2,000 feet long and takes about five minutes to get through - I recommend going more than once (and you can get multiple-ride day passes, of course).

It has a total fall of about 12 feet, and in rafting terms, it runs at a Class 2. This means that there is some rough waters (hence the whitewater thing), some rocks, minor drops, and some occasional maneuvering required. It's fun!

There are three raft types to choose from: two-person, four-person, and a five-person raft.

All equipment is provided, unless you'd prefer to kayak down - in that case, you'll have to bring your own gear. Do remember that the required height for rafting the East Race Waterway is 4.5 feet tall, or 54 inches. Children under 16 that reach this height requirement must be with an adult to ride.

Bring an extra set of clothes and be sure to make sure your phone is packed away tight, because you will definitely get wet... at least a little!

If you've never experienced whitewater rafting, this is going to be a wonderful, entirely new adventure. And to those for whom this is not the first rodeo, well, you might just find that it's one of your favorites.

You've also got options when it comes to passes.

You can get just one ride, two rides, three rides, or a whole day pass. Interested in a fun day trip? You got it.

East Race Waterway opens for the 2023 season on June 3rd.

For tickets, pricing, specials, and more, be sure to check out the official East Race Waterway website. This is a unique adventure in Indiana unlike any other... and I think you'll love it.
