Dream Spring Break in Indiana: Where I’d Go if Money Was No Object
Warsaw, Indiana, is a small town with BIG spirit - and during spring break, it becomes the ultimate way to ditch the crowds and enjoy nature.
Okay, I know - you probably don't often throw "spring break" and "Indiana" into the same sentence, but perhaps you should, and after this article, you just might. Personally, I'm not big on crowds - especially rowdy ones - and I prefer to skip the large, cantankerous groups of partiers one might encounter in Florida or California. Instead, I love visiting a small-but-big town, if that makes sense - a small town with big, big energy and lots of fun stuff to do while you're here.
Enter Warsaw, Indiana. It's an amazing town where you can enjoy spring break like anyone else.
The list of fun stuff to do - for every age group - is seemingly endless. With a population of just over 16,000, it's a small town with a big-city vibe and plenty to do, see, and experience. You'll find one-of-a-kind bars, restaurants, eateries, and bakeries to peruse, and you'll discover the reason this little town has a reputation for being a vibrant, active community.
Of course, I can't discuss all the places to eat (and drink!) without name-dropping a few; indulge in your spring break shenanigans at bars and pubs like Mad Anthony Brewing Company, Rex's Rendezvous, and others. Nearly every single bar and grill in this town has excellent ratings! These are great for folks looking for a more exciting experience with all the fun of a usual spring break: booze, bar food, and great times with friends. Party on!
For the nature lovers seeking out something a little more low-key, I see you, and there are even more incredible options. Warsaw is close to almost everything. Seriously, lovers of the outdoors will become lovers of Warsaw, Indiana, pretty quickly.
Spring break just wouldn't be spring break without some water-based fun, right? Luckily for us, there are a few opportunities for exactly that within a stone's throw of town. There are numerous - and I mean numerous! - lakes in and around Warsaw that make for excellent weekend and/or day trip opportunities. Pike Lake is one of my favorites, and it's gorgeous - the sparkling, clear water is awfully inviting right around now, and fishing is quite popular, as is canoeing and kayaking.
If you were hoping for a beachy getaway but got "stuck" with Indiana instead, don't fret - the beach at Pike Lake is sandy, as is the entire bottom of the lake. It's very ocean-esque, but without the hustle and bustle of 40 million people partying and trying to get around. I love it, and I wouldn't trade a day here for a day in Florida right now if someone offered to pay me to do so. (You may want to wait 'til summer for the beach fun, though).
If you're planning to visit and need a place to stay, this incredible Lakeside Cabin Airbnb in Warsaw is my favorite spot to call home, even if it's just for a little while. It's beautiful, modern, and well worth splurging for.
So, what do you think? Do you prefer a more low-key spring break like I do? Think about it, and then start planning - spring is upon us, after all.
