The Mascot Hall of Fame in northwest Indiana is situated near Lake Michigan not far from the Illinois border. From here, you can see excellent views of the water as well as the Chicago skyline when the weather is clear.
The museum opened at the end of 2018, but this hall of fame has existed in some form or another for many years. It began as an online-only hall with induction ceremonies held in Pennsylvania each year.
This mascot museum operates like any hall of fame. Each year, new mascots are nominated to join the ranks of Phillie Phanatic, Big Red, and Mr. Met. Winners are chosen by a select group of members.
This mascot museum recognizes both college and professional characters. In addition to those already named, the likes of Bucky the Badger, Brutus Buckeye, KC Wolf, and Slider can be found here.
In order to be eligible for the hall of fame, a mascot must be around for at least five years, and its chances of being inducted are increased the more it inspires fans and impacts the community.
Visitors of this mascot museum enjoy interactive exhibits that teach guests all about what it takes to be a mascot. Sports fans will really get a kick out of this attraction.
Admission to this unique hall of fame is $12 for adults and children, though those under the age of 2 will be admitted for free. Parking is free and available on-site.
The museum is open daily. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Thursday hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. while Sunday hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Mascot Hall of Fame is located at 1851 Front St., Whiting, IN 46394, and you can learn more about it on its website or Facebook page.
