The World-Famous Covered Bridge Festival Is Back In Indiana This Year
Indiana's Parke County hosts the largest covered bridge festival, celebrating its 31 historic bridges amidst the enchanting autumn scenery.
Indiana is known by many for its picturesque covered bridges; in fact, there are 98 gorgeous covered bridges throughout the Hoosier State, each with its own story and timeless aesthetic. Every one of them is beautiful, particularly in the fall; each one transforms into something out of a Thomas Kinkade painting, and it's quite a sight to behold. If you're a fan of covered bridges, you're going to love this famous covered bridge festival in Indiana that takes place in nowhere other than beautiful Parke County, which is home to about a third of those bridges in the state. Take a look.
Parke County has absolutely earned its old title of the "Covered Bridge Capital of the World."
The Parke County Covered Bridge Festival celebrates exactly that, and there's so much to do and to see during this time that it goes on for a little over a whole week.
This festival is Indiana's largest, and it celebrates every one of Parke County's 31 historic bridges at a time when they're at their most magical: autumn.
The changing leaves make these already-photogenic bridges positively splendiferous, and trust us when we say you'll be enchanted and capitvated every single day you choose to attend.
Each bridge has its own attractions to enjoy.
Of course, with there being so many, we can't really list all of them here - but some of them include Rockville, which is the headquarters of the whole affair, and Belmore, where you'll find delightful pumpkins, mums, and all sorts of family yard sales to boot!
At Billie Creek Village, not far from Rockville, you'll discover three bridges, handmade crafts, and all the festival food you can handle.
In Bloomingdale, enjoy delicious chicken and noodle suppers, incredible local barbecue, and so, SO much more. You'll want to come hungry for that leg of the festival for sure.
Bridgeton brings home-and-hand-made crafts, plenty of vendors, and loads of local history.
Check out the old Case Log Cabin; marvel at the 1878 House, and stop by the food court - well, if you're even still hungry after Bloomingdale, anyway. Maybe do this one on a separate day - you've got 10 to choose from.
Of course, there are plenty more where those came from. We don't want to (and honestly can't) spoil it all for you, though.
Seriously, if there are three things Hoosiers love, it's (in no particular order) fall, covered bridges, and festivals - so what better thing to do over a week and some days than enjoy the splendor of all three?
The festival itself is free to attend, although you can purchase bus tour tickets if you so desire.
Many places have more than one bridge, too, so you can kill several birds with one proverbial stone on each day of the event.
This year's Parke County Covered Bridge Festival runs from October 8-17, 2021.
