The Train Ride Through The Indiana Countryside That Shows Off Fall Foliage

Each and every year, autumn comes along following a hot, humid summer to remind us that there's always an eventual respite from the heat - and it always does so in brilliant, vivid color. There are many ways to enjoy the amazing fall colors in Indiana as well as the Midwest; one of our personal favorites is by locomotive. Enter the best experience of them all: the Indiana Fall Color Train, hosted by the kind folks at the Indiana Rail Experience. This is one jaw-droppingly epic fall foliage train ride in Indiana that you and the family (or maybe just you and a significant other) can enjoy. This year's dates are October 7th and 8th; plan accordingly!

Come one, come all to the Indiana Rail Experience, headquartered in beautiful Pleasant Lake.

All year, every year, this particular railroad offers excursions and experiences you're sure to love, whether you're bringing the kiddos or going on a romantic railway date.

Each and every autumn, though, the rail hosts a jaw-droppingly awesome event for two days only: the Indiana Fall Color Train.

This year, the steam-powered locomotive embarks on October 7th and October 8th, so plan accordingly and book well ahead of time lest you, well, miss the train.

The Indiana Fall Color Train is a truly wondrous experience.

Fall colors always bring with them a feeling of whimsy, and witnessing them from a train the old-school way just adds to it.

These are all-day excursions, going from 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.

The train starts its journey in Pleasant Lake and rolls all the way to Hillsdale, Michigan, with all the incredible fall colors to marvel at in between.

Ticket prices range from $99 for your open-air class admission to $650 for a private, luxurious car.

And this isn't a modernized train ride: no, it's more like your great-great-grand-pappy's but with much better amenities, considering you'll be aboard a legitimate steam engine train.

There's a three-hour layover once the train reaches Hillsdale - perfect time for shopping and browsing, plus maybe grabbing a bite to eat.

Then, the three-hour journey back to Pleasant Lake begins, and you'll once again get more than an eyeful of the most splendid colors the countryside has to offer.

Come for the incredible fall foliage, but stay for the whole experience.

It's unique, full of intrigue, and the perfect way to kill an autumn day.
