The Benton House is elegant and awe-invoking all year round, but when it's framed in brilliant autumn color, there's something especially perfect about it.

It looks like something out of a movie or TV show, on the inside and the outside - and it really is as magical as it feels.

The Benton House can be found in Irvington, a pleasant suburb of Indy, and it's somehow both friendly and imposing.

Built in 1873, the house was originally occupied by the two-time president of Butler University (whose last name was, unsurprisingly, Benton). The structure is crafted in Second Empire style, and it's home to ten rooms and some of the most beautiful woodwork you'll ever see.

In 1966, a coalition came together to oversee the purchase and restoration of the Benton House.

In 1973, it finally made its way onto the National Register of Historic Places. Nowadays, it's a multi-purpose community building with many different facets.

In the fall, there are fun, spooky events, like trick-or-treating and costume contests.

In the winter, it becomes a stunning slice of Christmas paradise. For the rest of the year, it's a beautiful testament to Indiana's architectural brilliance (for which the Hoosier State tends to get very little credit - see structures like the incredible, abandoned City Methodist Church in Gary ).

The house is famous for its incredible pre-1900s heirloom plants, some of which were hybridized as far back as the 1700s, which bloom beautifully every year and are meticulously loved and cared for.
