Tucked away in Will County is one of the most amazing nature preserves in Illinois. While typically used for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and other warm weather activities, winter brings the opportunity for something even better.
Goodenow Grove Nature Preserve is host to a 40-foot snow tubing hill that kids of all ages look forward to every year. Bring your own sled or rent sledding tubes from the Plum Creek Nature Center.
The hill is open beginning December 1 each year, when conditions allow. While you can bring your own gear, steel runners, snowboards, and steerables are not permitted.
Other winter activities other than snow tubing include snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice skating, when conditions allow. Guests can rent snowshoes from the nature center and then explore five miles of winter wonderland trails.
Later in the year once it warms up, spring and summer activities include picnicking and camping as well as enjoying all the gorgeous foliage that blooms annually.
Encompassing 891 acres, this marvelous nature preserve is part of the Plum Creek preservation system which is responsible for preserving more than 2,300 acres of land. Come out and enjoy the true beauty of Illinois like never before.
