The Incredible New Years Eve Celebration Everyone In Idaho Needs To Experience Once

Boise, Idaho hosts a unique New Year's Eve celebration featuring the descent of a giant glowing potato.

'Tis the season to drop stuff out of the sky. Every New Year's Eve, millions of eyes are locked on New York's Times Square ball as it starts its giant, glittery descent at 11:59 p.m. and counts America down into the new year. But from now on, all eyes should be on Boise, Idaho for the biggest NYE party of all.

Because here in Idaho, we use a giant potato. And this year, we're switching it up a bit.

For the past four years, this quintessential annual event has been getting bigger and bigger with a "spec-tater" audience of around 50,000, but for the first time in the history of Idaho's biggest NYE celebration, the giant tuber will be slightly... bedazzled. For 2017, we'd like to introduce you to Idaho's giant GlowTato, because you're seriously not going to want to miss this party.

Every year, thousands of people pack into Idaho's capital city for the biggest celebration of the year...

The NYE Idaho Potato Drop in downtown Boise.

Of course, as the name suggests, this New Years Eve party features something totally unique to Idaho: a giant, 17-foot potato, which will start its descent by crane when the clock hits 11:59 p.m.

Always celebrated in grand style with food, drinks, and live music, this year's festivities are being kicked up a notch with a few... glowing changes.

Instead of the traditional giant foam potato, this year's drop will feature a custom, glowing spud that has been in the making for years.

The festivities begin at 6 p.m. on December 31 at Capitol Park, with VIP viewing available for the ultimate tater experience.

Also taking place: a Tater Tot fun run, live music, America's Got Talent performances, and a FREE heated family tent with educational and interactive entertainment for all ages: balloon tying, book reading, magicians, zumba and more! A wrestling event will take place at the Borah Grounds wrestling ring.

Rumor also has it that the grand finale - the epic fireworks display over the capitol - has been stepped up as well with more pyrotechnics than you dreamed possible.

A glowing potato, epic fireworks, free admission, and activities to boot?

Count me in.
