This Abandoned Train Yard In Georgia Was Once Used As A Munitions Factory
The Pullman Train Yard in Georgia, once abandoned and covered in graffiti, has been transformed into an arts and entertainment complex.
There's something so uniquely appealing about an abandoned location. The sight of a place that hasn't seen regular visitors for years, or even decades, can be eerily beautiful. Sometimes, these places end up vandalized by graffiti artists. Sometimes, Mother Nature has her way with them, covering them in vines and plants. Even when abandoned places end up nearly-unrecognizable shells of their former glory, many people still enjoy seeing photos of these hauntingly gorgeous spots. One of the most notable abandoned places in Georgia was the Pullman Train Yard, which sat abandoned for decades. We've found some fantastic old photos of this site before its recent makeover into an event venue.
Editor’s Note: Due to the nature of abandoned destinations, many of the places featured in this series are off-limits to visitors or have actually been demolished. We do not condone trespassing and other illegal activity but rather encourage readers to enjoy learning about these fascinating destinations.
The Pratt-Pullman Yard was a 27-acre plot that was used by the Pratt Engineering Company and later by the Pullman Company up until 1955.
The space has had a number of different roles throughout its life, serving as a sugar and fertilizing processing plant, a munitions manufacturer during World War I, and a repair site for damaged Pullman railroad cars.
As the interstate system expanded and air travel became more prevalent, rail travel numbers began to decline throughout the country. The Pullman Yard was shut down and abandoned.
The area became a haven for graffiti artists. It wasn't long before virtually the entire building was covered in spray paint. The result added an eerily colorful touch to an area that was already quite creepy.
In 2017, the site was purchased by a Hollywood studio. It was used in a number of major productions, including Baby Driver, Fast and Furious, Divergent, and The Hunger Games.
Today, the train yard has undergone yet another transformation. It is now the home of an arts and entertainment complex that has restaurants, concerts, and events.
It's virtually unrecognizable from its former dilapidated state!
