Few Foods Are As Iconic As The Georgia Peach – And Of Course It Has A Whole Festival

There are lots of famous foods in Georgia: boiled peanuts, fried chicken, shrimp and grits, pimento cheese, and plenty more, but only one dish has such a strong association that it's in our official state nickname and state logo. We're talking about the mighty peach, of course. Georgia is one of the top peach-producing states in the country, and if you ask us, these juicy fruits simply taste better when grown in Georgia. The peach is a highly-celebrated food here, so it should come as no surprise that we have our very own peach festival in Georgia. This summer event takes place over two weekends in June and is shared by the cities of Byron and Fort Valley. Fort Valley's already had their 2023 event, over the weekend of June 3, but you can still catch the Byron festivities on Saturday, June 10, 2023. Check it out:

The festival takes place in middle Georgia, which is fitting, since this is the top area of peach production in the state. The county that Byron and Fort Valley are in is even called Peach County!

Peaches are a member of the rose family. Georgia produces around two million bushels of peaches each year.

And, of course, you'll find lots for sale at the festival. This festival has been going on for 37 years and is a celebration of Georgia's favorite crop.

Fort Valley actually hosted the state's first known peach festival back in the 1920s, but it went on hiatus for a few decades before being revived in 1986.

At the festival, you'll find plenty of family-friendly events, such as live music.

Local vendors will be selling their wares throughout Byron's Peach Park.

Food trucks will be set up with plenty of dishes on hand.

Lots of other festivities can be expected at the festival, too. The world's largest peach cobbler is baked here annually!
