Cave of the Winds has been a visitor attraction since 1881 but was closed to the public from 1907-1980. The history of this cave is rich and filled with eerie ghost stories that can make your tour through the cave downright spooky.
If you aren't the type to sign up for a "heart leaping out of your chest" experience, they do offer less spooky tours. The Discovery Tour is a little more family friendly as you walk around a half mile of mostly lit, easily accessible parts of the cave.
But, if you are feeling a little more brave, you will want to sign up for the Lantern Tour.
The entrance to this cave seems innocent enough, but prepare to get goosebumps once you step inside.
This tour will allow you to travel deep into the mountain with only a hand-held lantern to light your way.
Along this rugged tour, you will squeeze through passageways and explore formations as the tour guide fills you in on the folklore and background behind Cave of the Winds. They will also chime in with eerie ghost stories throughout the almost two-hour trek.
Some have experienced apparitions, strange mists of water, unexplained sounds, and mysterious lights in photographs.
Management has even invited paranormal teams to investigate the cave in the last decade.
In 2012, Cave of the Winds was featured on Biography Channel's, "My Ghost Story," which shared the findings of the paranormal investigation by The Spirit Chasers.
