If You’ve Only Got One Day To Spend In Delaware, You Must Do These 7 Things

Discover Delaware's hidden gems in a one-day itinerary featuring nature, history, and dining.

Delaware is a really underrated state! Most Americans can't even point to it on a map, let alone are they aware of what amazing gems we have hidden here. Because of this, I'm issuing a challenge to you out-of-staters. Spend one day here, and see some of what we have to offer. After just a few hours of exploring, you'll want to come back and stay for days! Here's what you've got to do on your one Delaware day.

Catch sunrise at Cape Henlopen.

No matter how early you have to wake up, it's worth it to begin your day at the Point at Cape Henlopen. The sunrises here are among the best on the East Coast!

While you're in the area, head to Egg, Rehoboth Beach's newest breakfast hotspot.

Egg is located at 510 Rehoboth Ave., in Rehoboth Beach. They're famous for their best-of-Delaware biscuits and creative, delicious Eggs Benedicts. Whatever you decide to order, you'll have a truly hearty breakfast to fuel your day.

After breakfast, head to Cape Henlopen State Park.

Your early start will pay off, because you'll now have plenty of time to explore an amazing state park. Walk through the abandoned Fort Miles and climb to the top of a World War II observation tower for a breathtaking view.

Now that you're full, it's time to head upstate. Hopefully you enjoy spending some time in your car, because the Bombay Hook Auto Tour is next.

Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge offers an auto tour through protected wetlands that will blow you away. In early spring,

keep an eye out for hawks, migratory birds, foxes,

and even their kits!Start your adventure at 2591 Whitehall Neck Road, Smyrna, DE 19977

After your morning spent mingling with Mother Nature, it's time for lunch. Head up to the BnL, in Dover.

Here, at 25 W Loockerman Street, you'll find some incredible burgers and the best milkshakes in the state. If you're trying to eat light, their fresh salads will be just the thing you're craving, and if you're really a breakfast person, try one of their unbelievable french toast creations.

When you're all done eating, spend some time seeing the historic sites around the Green in Dover.

First State Heritage Park is a collection of landmarks in the area. It's a great spot for history buffs to explore, because it's truly one of the only places where you can step back in time to see Old Delaware.

Don't spend too much time on the Green, though. There's still a lot to see! Winterthur is your next destination.

Winterthur is a 1,000 acre DuPont Estate that is the perfect place to spend an afternoon. Enjoy a guided tour or stroll the grounds on your own. Be sure to stop by the enchanted woods, where faeries have created an incredible world of their own! You'll find Winterthur at 5105 Kennett Pike, Winterthur, DE 19735.

After such a long day, it's time to sit down and relax at a restaurant with a view. Big Fish Grill in Wilmington is your final Delaware destination.

Treat yourself to some of the best, freshest seafood in the country right here in Wilmington. Delaware's blue crabs are always a hit, as are our oysters... but you can find a pretty good lobster roll at Big Fish Grill, too! Find this gem at 720 Justison St

Wilmington, Delaware.

As the sun sets on your perfect Delaware day, we certainly hope our home state has made a good impression, and that you'll want to come back.

What would you recommend to someone visiting Delaware for the first time? I really think that Fort Miles and the rest of Cape Henlopen State Park are a must-see. Do you agree?
