This Large Inclusive Playground In Connecticut Is Incredible
Adam's Adventure in Tolland, CT is an inclusive playground designed for children of all abilities, including those with mobility issues and sensory processing disorders.
It can sometimes feel like modern life comes with a whole lot of problems, but we think there are some great things about living in the present day. One of the best is that people with disabilities have so many more options for community integration than they once had. From closed captioning to wheelchair-accessible trails, there are so many aspects of society that now allow everyone to participate. One field that's gotten a lot of attention over the last few years is accessible playgrounds. If you're not familiar with the concept, these playgrounds allow kids of all abilities to play together. They have attractions with flat, even flooring that wheelchairs and strollers can roll over, and there are typically interactive areas for kids with sensory processing disorders like autism. One of our favorite playgrounds in Connecticut is Adam's Adventure, the most inclusive playground in Tolland, CT. This is a spot with no limitations on abilities or age. Check it out:
Adam's Adventure is named after a young local boy who developed cognitive impairments after a bout of bacterial meningitis. He passed away in 2020, but his memory lives on through this magnificent playground that allows everyone to play together.
There's a shaded area nearby with picnic tables so that caretakers can keep a close eye on the kiddos, but one of the great things about Adam's Adventure is that everyone's allowed to play, so even adults can get in on the fun.
This is such a cool and colorful playground that's straight out of childhood dreams.
The playground can accommodate those with mobility issues, but also welcomes people with autism and sensory processing disorders.
You'll find something for everyone here, with chances to swing, run, play music, or simply sit off to the side and watch.
Representation is so important, and it's wonderful that we have an accessible playground in Tolland, CT that gives everyone the opportunity to play.
