You never know what you will find down in southern Colorado, but those who look hard enough will find a town with one of the stranger names in state.
Model 1913 is a ghost town now. Many of you are probably wondering how it got its name. Well, glad you asked. Model 1913 was founded in 1913 and was proclaimed to be a "model" town, but by the start of WWII, the town had become mostly abandoned.
Nowadays, Model 1913 has become a "model" of a ghost town.
Many of the buildings and houses are still standing and in fair condition. The Model Mercantile Co. building stands as a reminder to advertisements past.
At least one of the houses is occupied, and one of the main store buildings appears to be under renovation, but for any explorer who steps foot in this little town, be prepared to also take a step back in time.
